Apple Picking in Long Island

It isn't fall without an apple picking. Actually it's been fall for me for many, many years with no apple picking, but thanks to a pair of our generous friends with a car, we hopped off to Wickham's Fruit Farm in Cutchogue, Long Island and picked our very own apples. They made it into a pie today, and pies made with fruit you picked yourself just taste better. Other nice things about Wickham's: the hay ride to the apple orchard and pumpkin field, the cheap pumpkins, the goods in the front store (fresh-baked bread, homemade jams, area cheeses, produce, etc.). Once we stopped being kids at the orchard, we headed to Bedell Cellars for an adult snack of that fresh-baked bread and tasty cheese, nicely complimented by a bottle of wine.
