Another refreshing opening in the neighborhood: Lee Lee's Valise (see Plus Size Diva, Too Fat for Fashion). The store, which stocks women's clothing sizea 12-24 obviously has its niche, but based on the number of women browsing tonight it's found itself an audience. The boutique located in the space previously known as Bleach House and opened in record time.
A few things of note from Plus Size Diva
Lee Lee’s Valise has quite a history. It started out as a longshoreman’s social club back in the days when the old-timers like Al Capone and Albert Anastasia walked the streets of Brooklyn. ... In addition we are going to offer “Jim’s Corner” in our back store which opens up on President St. ... Jim has set up an enclave in the back where the husbands can relax in a comfortable chair and watch the game while enjoying some coffee or soda and batting the breeze.

There's a new fruit and veggie market in the neighborhood and it might qualify as the neighborhood's largest, though it comes without any of the "gourmet" bells and whistles that seem to accompany most openings recently. And that is a compliment--less flash, lower prices--and do your vegetables really need chichi surroundings? K&Y fruit and vegetable is at 291 Court Street, between Degraw and Douglass.
