Photoblog: December 2006 Archives

So though I wasn't the first person to say it out loud, the phrase uttered by one of the hundreds of people standing in line for a glimpse inside 11 Spring was what everyone must have been thinking: "This must be the most photographed place in New York today." Who knows, maybe there were more tourists snapping shots of the Statue and from observation decks of Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Building, but I can guarantee you there was then, and will be today and tomorrow when the building is open, no greater conglomeration of hipsters (from old-school lived in the East Village when it was still battle-scarred to fresh-faced nu-schoolers) snapping shots than at 11 Spring.

All this intro to say that what Wooster Collective has pulled together an amazing, nearly impromptu show of  work by artists whose main canvases are streets and buildings. If you have ever walked by a bit of graffiti and admired it, you should not miss this show--the amount of artistic energy in the building is breathtaking. Once the weekend is over, all the work will be obscured by the new construction of condos in the building, but don't be sad--that's the way they wanted it.
