I came across these fantastic mixes over at The Sweet Fix this morning. They're from the DFA Party at Moma back in March. I'm sad now that I missed it.

  1. Justin Miller & Jacques Renault
  2. Holy Ghost!
  3. T&T (Tim Sweeney & Tim Goldsworthy)
  4. Juan Maclean

Go check them out, I'm sure they'll make your day too.

Superdragon Attacks!

Molly, former owner and bartender of the new defunct Lido Bar, will be rockin' with her bandmates at Bar Matchless in Greenpoint this Thursday night. If Superdragon's sound is anything like Molly's antics, you will be outrageously entertained.

Every time I pass the vacant Lido on Columbia St., I'm filled with fond memories and shed a tear.

CUT_COPY_MIX_A.jpg

I came across this Cut Copy mix a couple of days ago and I've had quite some mileage out of it so far. You should head over to the Anthem Magazine <<<MP3 HERE blog and check it out! It's full of all the wholesome disco-italo-cosmic DJ goodness you might expect for an ABL:Radio podcast mix.

Update: Music For Robots has the track listing.

On a somewhat related note, Cut Copy hails from Melbourne, AU where one of our ABL:Radio Djs, Spankie Hazard, originates. You might remember his tribute to Brooklyn's own Environ Records we posted a while back. Spankie will be appearing this Friday on "A Downtown Affair," (10:30pm 89.1FM/wnyu.org), a radio show hosted by Mike McGill (works at Environ) another ABL DJ. Be sure to check it out! If you miss the show, the mix should be posted over at Mike's blog, "Let's Get Serious" at some point next week.

Cobble Hill resident, Bethany of ABL:Radio and Cybernetic-Broadcasting System fame, will be joining our friends Attitude City in Montréal this Friday for a DJ extravaganza. If you happen to be anywhere near, do not miss this event!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! That said -- What are you up to on Friday?

Consider this: we're throwing a party at Le Cagibi (formerly Esperanza) and wanted to know if you were free. Music courtesy of ABL Radio and Cybernetic Broadcasting System's BETHANY BENZUR (NYC, USA), who in our opinion is as good as it gets for electronic disco. This one has been three years in the making, and we've even booked extra sound to fill the joint out.

Minneapolis DJ of the Year JEFF DUBOIS (MN, USA) gets things started in style with his signature brew of italo, boogie, and down-to-earth dance music. Only 5 bucks to party all night long.

While you're there, check out our merch table: we've got Loose Joints t-shirts, mix CDs, and other handcrafted delights at ridiculously low prices.

Loose Joints presents:
Bethany Benzur (ATL/NYC, USA)
Jeff Dubois (MPLS, USA)
David Shaw (MTL)
Friday, November 23rd
Le Cagibi, 5490 St. Laurent (corner Saint-Viateur)
$5 10-3am

The Triple Crown Problem

| | Comments (1)

I first heard about Triple Crown's problems on Brownstoner. The short version is that vocal people in the neighborhood see the bar as a noise problem and want them to shut down. Those same people have influenced the community board who won't let the owners sell the business and thus are forcing Triple Crown to stay in business. The current owners just want out. Check out Triple Crown's side of the story on its website and watch the video (at bottom of page). There's also a link to a petition that you can sign in support of the owners.

Picture_1 A friend of mine dropped this little gem into my lap this morning. So, on this chilly autumn day, we can think back to the awesomeness that was the Daft Punk show at Keyspan Park this summer. I'd say it ranks as the most memorable event in my book.

  1. Robot Rock
  2. Technologic
  3. Television Rules the Nation
  4. Steam Machine
  5. Around the World (Harder Better Faster Stronger)
  6. Too Long
  7. Face to Face (Remix)
  8. Interlude
  9. One More Time (Aerodynamic remix)
  10. The Brainwashers (Rollin & Scratchin remix)
  11. Alive (The Prime Time of Your Life remix)
  12. Da Funk
  13. Human After All Superheroes remix)

Check out some of our recent podcasts while you're at it!

Update: It was pointed out that this could be from the Cochella show in LA. I posted a mix that is definitely from the Cochella show over here. See for yourself.

Saturday Musical Onslaught

| | Comments (0)

What better way to celebrate the return of our ABL:Radio podcast than to check out all the podcast related DJs and performances in Brooklyn this weekend?

First off,  we have live performances by Brooklyn's own Devin Dirt and Oliver Dodd, a comrade of ours from bygone times in Atlanta.

Dodd_flyer

Black Van emerges from a summer hiatus and infiltrates Monkey Town this Saturday, October 13th to present its latest crusher 'Watch The Feedback' from Nashville-based Oliver Dodd, due out November 27th. Five tracks of electro house laced with 90's rave aurally delivered iron fist velvet glove and guaranteed to do damage. Oliver continues to move crowds and rock dance floors with heavy-hitter DJs Tommie Sunshine, MSTRKRFT, and Justice all currently playing his recent tracks.

Joining Dodd is Black Van label owner Devin Dirt who brings us his first New York performance since being back from a summer long West Coast tour. He'll be previewing tracks from the highly anticipated "Violent Tendencies" EP due out  next year.  Hosting the night is the illustrious Machine Punk resident Supervixen.

Here's your chance to be a part of the video for "Watch The Feedback" which will be filmed throughout the night beginning at midnight.  If you've never been to a Black Van/Machine Punk party, you're in for something gritty.

This week's podcast will feature a recent live performance by Devin Dirt.

Next on the agenda, our weekly Skylab party over at Sputnik will be hosted by founder Dekker and legendary house DJ and producer, Ktel Jenkins.

Skylab_10_13_07

Sputnik bar has recently undergone a major face lift to make it have a more lounge-like appeal, and less like a rouge coffee shop.

Fixedbigg_2 Finally, if that's not enough for you, Parisian cousins Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon descend upon Studio B to play their extraordinary brand of French house. Will this be the monkey wrench thrown into my weekend plans? Who do you choose? These guys are responsible to such favorites as "Music Sounds Better With You," "Intro," "Rubicon," "Vertigo," "Together," "So Much Love To Give" and much more!

Whereever you go, you won't be disappointed.
