Food and Drink: September 2007 Archives

This Sunday from 10am to 6pm, you can experience the wonder of the Atlantic Antic (check out the food map). Sadly, we will be missing due to a trip to Texas, but I'm convinced ABL readers will drink Sixpoint's specially made beer (Atlantic Antic Amber) in sufficient quantities so our absence  will not be noted.  As for food, my favorites last year were from Stir it Up, Soul Spot, and Nicky's. As for decor, I'm wondering if there will be the same abundance of personal tiki bars on the streets as last year. Never have I been so tempted to buy a leopard print bamboo tiki bar ...

Normally I'd wait until the date was a bit closer, but as there are only 100 tickets for Clinton Hill's Oktoberfest, I thought it might be prudent to mention now, while they are still available. The party is being thrown by Wreck and Salvage. Why should you go? According to W&S ...

Who knows, maybe they'll also be giving away posters of their pretzel-beer-cup-sausage with what looks like a younger, more innocent Britney Spears in traditional German beer gal garb.

Just got an email about the space was was formerly Lillie's in Red Hook. The word is that the chef behind Petit Crevette and Bouillabaisse (Neil Ganic?) will be serving food, and there will be an adjacent restaurant/music space, La Bouillabaisse. The spot will be named after Mordecai Gist ... That last bit of information makes me think "Is this for real?" Being that it's nearly midnight, a little too late to call for confirmation, but Gowanus Lounge makes an allusion to similar information in its July Red Hook quiz. I suppose why not Mordecai? (Makes me think of the biblical Mordecai in the book of Esther.) Good to see another bar opening in Red Hook.

Oh, I walked by Bouillabaisse 126 on Union Street Saturday night and it was dead. Anybody been lately?

Is there an empty building in all of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill or Carroll Gardens that hasn't--at one time, or another--been rumored, on the internet, to be openings as a McDonald's? If you were thinking the long-vacant Blockbuster space, then you'd be wrong because that has been taken care of this morning on Curbed. Although I don't really mean this, there's a part of me just wishes McDonald's would open in the 'hood and be done with it and then we wouldn't have to suffer through the passionate throes of McDonald's-about-to-open-and-ruin-our -quality-of-life rumors. Just saying.
