New Bar Alert: Liberty Heights Tap Room now Rocky Sullivan's
Finally did a walk-by on this, and the change to Rocky Sullivan's at 34 Van Dyke Street in Red Hook is complete on the outside. Love that the bar has its own Wikipedia page. We didn't go inside as we were rushing through Red Hook for our papusa fix at the ballfields. Anyone been?

Went by there on Saturday after lunch at the soccer field. The place is the same inside but I think that the beers cost more ($6 a pint). They still have pizza and a great roof deck that on a beautiful Saturday afternoon was all ours.
Must have just missed Winden! I went before my papusa fix on Saturday. The inside decor is exactly the same, and they still have a couple of sixpoint drafts on tap, but now they also have Bud Light and maybe Heinekin on tap as well. I don't seem to remember that.
I was a little disappointed that they didn't have my current fav summer beer (Sixpoint Apollo Wheat), but the burgers looked tasty from afar. Not as tasty as my multiple papusas and huaraches. Damn. I can't believe I'm not still full.
I stopped by for a drink on friday. Yeah, $6 Sixpoints? What's up with that? But overall seemed the same, just a name change.

yes, the original Rocky's on Lexington Ave was known for their weekly reading series (Frank McCourt, Pete Hamill etc. read there), it's going to continue bi-weekly now that they've moved to Red Hook. Hynes is the first, haven't heard who will be there in September yet.
About time this great place lost its embarrassing moniker. "Liberty Heights" was once the name proposed to replace the louche but historic "Red Hook." The neighborhood has no heights of any kind, though there is a view of the Statue of Liberty from many points, none of them near the bar.
Happy to see this spot regain its blue-collar roots. And do ask for Six Points brews at your favorite tavern!

If anyone's around on Wednesday nights check out Sugartime at Rocky Sullivans. They're an incredible R & B/Soul combo made up of members of The Nitecaps, The Lovelies, The Dots, Black 47, Major Thinkers, Uptown Horns Band, Richard Hell & The Voidoids...definitely worth a trip over.

I stopped by on a Wednsday night and there was a great R & B band playing,The crowd was awesome and the food was incredible (especially the pizza) even though the cook Matthew seemed like he would be more fit for a mental institution he was very charming and he had no problem answering all of my Pizza related questions.

Found out why the SixPoint pints were $6. Since Steve owned the building, he was getting the kegs for very little money and was able to afford selling them for so cheap.
Glad to hear they at least have *some* Six Points on tap now. Trekked out there a few weeks ago for the sole purpose of enjoying their many lovely Six Point selections and the ONLY functioning tap they had was Guinness, and the only bottled beer they had was that holy trinity of crap, Bud, Heineken and Corona. The bartender had no idea when they would have Six Point again and seemed generally lost and helpless--she said the owners had bought the bar and promptly left for an extended trip to Ireland. I need my Sweet Action Ale nooooow!
Went to get a 6 point. Love the local beer. Was told my options were (as someone else put it) "the holy trinity of crap". The bartender told me that I could go to "the yuppie bar down the street". I"m all for "blue collar roots" but when they say their next door neighbor's customers are just a bunch of "yuppies". . . I'll take my business elsewhere.
dave, what "Yuppie bar down the street" were they referring to? The closest places I can think of are on Van Brunt, but not next door...
Rocky Sullivan's is a major upgrade from Liberty heights. The bar itself has not changed much but the staff and the crowd is much better. The bar is getting better each week. They are getting more beers on tap and the Irish brunch they added on the weekends is amazing. They have great music on different nights. Seanchai playing on Saturday nights is still truly a unique experience. You really have to come here them play. You would definitely come back then. The bar and band was great in the city and is going to be great now here. They have readings on Mondays which Im not really into and then the most popular quiz nights in Manhattan is now here on Thursdays night. A lot of the regulars are coming back and the staff is much the same. The bartenders on Saturday night were great and very good looking to boot. You really need to go check this place out!
