Studio B: Carl Craig
So with the fog machine going, it was hard to take a decent photo, but the crowd was packed on the dance floor for Carl Craig last night at Studio B. When I heard he was playing somewhere besides APT, a lovely venue but one whose small size does not properly account for everyone who would like to hear him spin, I was ecstatic. The music was fun, mostly classic tunes you'd expect him to play and love to hear. In short: fun, dancey music, and a good time would have been had for all, except ... for the HOUR AND TEN MINUTE wait for our coats. Mind you, we started standing in line a little after 3 a.m., so this was not a crush to nab a coat once the music ended. While waiting in line with hundred or so other people, my friends and I tried to remember the last time we had waited in line that long for anything. I can not remember such a time. (One discovery: Williamsburg hipster and hipsterettes are quite patient and polite--I kept waiting for the riot to break out, and it never did. I think PLUR may really be making a comeback--negative on crazy nu raver fashions, though.) Of course by the time we finally got our coats around 4:15 a.m., we emerged onto a world of streets covered with snow and ice, which seem to have discouraged car services and taxi cabs from wanting to pick anyone up and drive them across the BQE (which turned out to be closed for a section). We finally got lucky and nabbed a car and got home a bit after 5 a.m. I somehow remember staying up until 5 a.m. as waaay more fun ... I think I'm getting old!

Let's not forget that Tim Sweeny did a damn fine job warming the crowd up for Carl Craig... That coat check process was extremely annoying...
Yeah, feeling like we spent the majority of the night just trying to get home really put a damper on things. We tried to get a cab/car for a bit until we gave up and took the train. I would like to know what went wrong with the coat check though because we've been there 2 other times in the cold and their efficient coat check has been one of the strong points of the club.
From what my friends are saying, they didn't bother to make sure that the coat check tickets were in numerical order so everything was just tossed onto hangers without any sort of system so retrieving coats turned into a nightmare. Apparently 1 girl had her coat given to someone else. Someone would have been hurt if that happened to me. And I have to say that I remember waiting an hour or more for my coat at both Sound Factory on 46th St and Tunnel. Both had horrendous coat check lines.
Obviously they don't concepts of database optimization.. hello... index and search on integer keys... pshaw!
this is why raving in the south was so much better, no coats to check in or at least thin enough coats to tie around your waist or stuff in your phat pants :)
I bet you could fit an entire ski parka in the back pocket of your Jencos.. (along with a midget, 2 blockbuster videos, and a 40oz)
Is it bad that I can't stop thinking about those neon green tights?!?
