Smith and Vine Moving
Smith and Vine outgrew its space on 246 Smith Street a long time ago, but the good news is that the fab wine store is moving down the block to 268 Smith (across from Chestnut and Zombie Hut). They'll make the move the first week of February. Here's to more space for more wines on the $10 and under table!

Speaking of $10 bottles of wine, my wife brought home a $45 bottle of wine that her boss was giving out for Christmas. I have to say that it was SO dry it barely had any flavor or body whatsoever. Our $10 bottles of Malbec (Altos & Alamos come to mind) are far more flavorfull and full bodied.
Long live the $10 table!!
My husband and I went in to buy a bottle of wine and the people who work at this store were so rude that I will never return. I'm not expecting much but the cashier not only didn't say hello or here's your change or thank you -- she couldn't stop talking to her co-worker long enough to even tell us how much our purchase was. I'm sticking with the good old Carroll Gardens wine store on Court and 3rd where the selection might not be quite as wide but at least the people there realize what customer service means.
I stop by that wine store too. Problem is, Smith & Vine seems to have lower prices. A bottle I used to buy there regularly for $12 is only $9 at S&V.
Go to Scotto's, the girls that work there are very sweet. I remember the first time I went there, the one helping me took my credit card and after reading my name on it asked, "Have you found everything you're looking for Jonathan?"
I think the woman you're referring to is the owner. I always think she's pretty rude and abrasive too. It seems weird that you'd go into a business where customer service is really needed if you're going to be like that. Wine knowledge is only one part of running a business.
Gotta say, I'm pretty surprised by these comments. I shop at S & V all the time and have always found the staff to be fun, courteous and knowledgable. I love that place.
I agree. The people at S&V have been nothing but uber-nice to me, even the time I asked for advice in a crowded store the day before Thanksgiving!
I love love love the people at S&V - they always seem to be having a good time, know their stuff, and are not pushy while being very knowledgable! It's a fun store and a great neighborhood place to shop.
i went to s&v once during the day. there was one person working and he was helping a couple select wines for their wedding. i stood there for 20 minutes waiting for him to just acknowledge me. he didn't. i left furious. HUGE SCOTTOS FAN!!!! i'll never stray again.
