Brooklyn Menus
There's a new entry into the menu war (take that MenuPages, NYMetro and um, whatever other menu sites are out there!). It's called Menutopia. I checked out their Carroll Gardens page and while the interface is nice, I was disappointed to see a number of the restaurants listed didn't actually have a menu. Zaytoons did, but I wasn't too impressed with this language from the Menutopia site once I got there: "Have an opinion about Zaytoons? Too bad, only members can rate and review." Ha--no, Menutopia, too bad for YOU! But who knows, maybe they just say that on their Brooklyn site ;)

Okay so not really related to this food topic but has anyone noticed the great old bodega opposite The Brooklyn Inn has closed down? And in its place is some very bogus looking apartment type add-on special, the type you see over on Henry St (and marketed as a co-op). Really sad to see the bodega just wiped out like that. And the fact that the Brooklyn Inn is now putting a small sign over its door (albeit a small sticker on the glass) - is that a sign of how things are changing on that corner? Did the Inn have to swallow its pride to finally announce the name of the establishment? What gives? (Though I do like the Inn...)
The "great old bodega" on Bergen St? Are you kidding? Ever actually go into that place to buy anything?
Many years ago, I went into that "great" old bodega after a night at the Brooklyn Inn for a sangwich. I actually knew the guy behind the counter from stopping in from time to time for soda and whatnot, but I never ever considered ordering anything like a sandwich.
Anyway, I ask for a sandwich and the guy takes a big block of meat from the case, turns it around, showing me where mice had drilled out huge tunnels in the meat. "Not for you, my friend" he said. Presumably, for others ....
Rank.
Ha--great story.
This isn't related to the bodega story, but I just wanted to drop a note saying that on behalf of Menutopia, I apologize for the site's rudeness. The copy in question "Too bad..." was filler copy and was never supposed to be seen by the public. We've updated the language to be a bit friendlier. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
