Subway Reads: To Do
When Halloween falls during the week, you've got to pack in the pre-parties--just to keep your stamina up. Tonight, head over to the West Village Barnes & Noble to check out underground comix witchery with Dame Darcy, the illustrator for The Illustrated Jane Eyre.*
It's the full text of Charlotte Bronte's classic, with color and black/white illustrations throughout. Dame Darcy plumbs the depths of Jane's emotion in a way that only a true lover of the work can. Darcy is hugely talented, original, creative, and the kind of person who lives every single moment as an artist. She'll be reading, talking, signing copies of the book, and possibly even casting a few spells. If anything, it will be an unpredictably good time. After all, how often can you meet the founder of a coven the day before Halloween?
Complete details follow below. Hope to see you there! For more on the book, check out Slate.com's review.

*I'm Dame Darcy's editor on this project, so to say I have a vested interest in its success is, of course, an understatement. However, I'm the editor on lots of projects, and I wouldn't foist something on you if it wasn't spectacular. This book is beautiful and amazing. Really.

This should be a great time! Don't worry be... jovial!
sorry i had to miss it! how'd it go?
one of the best things about this collaboration is that Dame Darcy really loves this book. and to cap off the evening, she even sang us an old murder ballad...
