New Restaurant Alert: Le Petite Crevette

Lepetitec

If I had to name a new favorite restaurant in Brooklyn, it'd be Le Petite Crevette. Amazingly airy, full-of-meat crab cakes. Fabulously rich, but not too rich, crab chowder. Fried oysters (from Connecticut!) so plump I was looking for the filling. Trout that tastes just out of the water. A mushroom side salad that could have doubled as an entree at many places. Sides of shockingly buttery mashed potatoes and just-crisped greens. With seafood this fresh, the desserts seemed beyond the point. BYOB and cash only for now. At the west side of Hicks and Union streets in Carroll Gardens West. So good I am reduced to short Hemingway-like sentences. There are only 12 seats, so one at a time, please.

Wasn't this place on Atlantic Ave. for a long time? If the same place - good addition to the South.

Yep. I *think* it's the same chef but not 100 percent sure.

Yup same chef - whatshisname from Bouillabaisse. We were so happy to hear that it was opened again.

Their new space is tiny but warm and inviting and all that.

But not the same chef that was at Petite Crevette when it closed, as far as I can tell.

I'm still thinking about those crab cakes. Really the best Brooklyn dining experience I've had in ages.

Is that really the name of the restaurant - it should be LA Petite Crevette. Crevette (shrimp) is feminine en Français!

Hehe. I wanted to write the same comment ("La" instead of "Le") but I wasn't sure who's mistake it was... not to sound too snobby but I was hoping it wasn't the restaurant's mistake since "Le Petite Crevette" sounds awful.

Anyway, we tried it last night (YUM! - and cheap for now since you don't have to buy drinks) and thankfully it is just called "Petite Crevette" without the Le.

Are you seriously going to make a big deal about the feminie vs. the masculine? Who cares? Neil is back in the kitchen and its like Bouillabaise 126 (sp!?!) like when it opened all over again with 12 seats and the freshest seafood this side of the East River and that side of the Gowanus. So yummy and BYO. A must visit!

I knew I should have taken French in high school--sorry about the errant Le!
