A Quick San Francisco Jaunt: Taqueria Suggestions?
We've got a super quick San Francisco trip planned this weekend, and we want to hit up a taqueria in the Mission. Last time we wrapped our hands around burritos at Pancho Villa (for our complete last trip itinerary ...). We'd love to hear people's favorite spots for West Coast Mexican (cheap, preferably). Or anything else you think we shouldn't miss. We're definitely going back to Tartine. Displaced West Coasters, speak out!

This place isn't in the Mission, it's in North Beach, but the fish tacos are amazing. It's a place called Armando's, and it's basically a bar, but they serve tacos. The fish tacos are the best, in my opinion, but they also have chicken (so-so) and shrimp. My friends ate the shrimp tacos and loved them. Have fun!

I've always liked El Farolito for buritos, especially their lengua. For tacos I've always liked El Metate, plus they have really good horchata. I've also heard good things about Mi Lindo Yucatan if you want southern mexican cooking. Here's a review in Tablehopper.
But... two things you really shouldn't miss if you're here this weekend. Bluebottle coffee just opened up a stand in the ferry building (really good coffee), and while there you should stop by Tsar Nicolai for the Parisian sandwich. Also, since you asked cheap, my favorite cheap restraunt of all time is Tu Lan on 6th and Market. Julia Child used to eat there a lot, it's a bit scary on the outside, but I'm pretty sure they put crack in the food because it's the best vietnamese cuisine I've ever had, and dirt cheap.
And I know it's touristy, but if you are going to the Ferry Building for coffee and Tsar Nicolai, the saturday farmers market is pretty good. Deep fried aasparagus should still be in season.
If you're craving carne asada, you can't beat El Farolito at 24th and Mission. Taqueria Cancun at 19th and Mission has mouth watering, delicious ham tortas and great veggie burritos.
Also can someone please open a good burrito joint in New York, please! I'm sick of soggy tasteless burritos.

The only good tacos and burritos I've had here have been at Pompano Taqueria, which is in this (currently under construction, but still open) food court called the Crystal Palace between 50th and 49th on Third Avenue, only open from 11 - 3 pm during the week.
Thanks Jal! We happened to be right next to El Farolito and it was nothing less than excellent.. not the best I've ever had, but it definitely hit the spot.
