A Frap® Vs. Big Mac Attack

The other day a coworker ordered a Blackberry Green Tea Frappuccino® Blended Crème from Starbucks. I had a coffee. When said coworker received his glowing green concoction, ribboned with lines of dark berry syrup and topped with a very healthy dose of whipped cream, my interest was piqued; I asked for a sip. It's certainly possible that I've sucked up a more sugar-filled beverage in my day, but I can't remember doing so. On top of that, it was not a tasty beverage. And so I set out to compare the nutitional value of the BGTF®BC to a Big Mac. The info comes directly from the Starbucks' nutitional value portion of its website and from McDonald's. I'm using the Grande size Frap® with whipped cream.

Purple=about the same as a Big Mac
Blue=less than Big Mac if that makes it more healthy
Red=the same as, more than Big Mac, or less than if that makes it less healthy (see fiber* and protein* categories)

That's really, really disturbing. I'm sure many people still thnk it's better than having a coffee, too. "Oh, I'm having tea..."

Those weird mixed teas from Starbucks are NASTY! I actually demanded a refund on their green tea frapuccino last summer, and they were gracious enough to give it to me (they had observed the completely earnest expression of disgust and surprise register on my face as I took my first sip at the counter).

Why do people drink that stuff? All Starbucks is good for are those tiny 40 cent triple chocolate cookies (two is enough), and the bathroom! Okay, and the Vanilla Creme on a cold winter night before bedtime.

How long before McDonalds seizes the opportunity and creates a blended Big Mac drink? Think of the market out there. All those people with their jaws wired shut. The market must be HUGE!

Anything loaded with cream and sugar is going to have lots of calories and fat and little nutritional value... if I'm going to have the occasional "fancy coffee" as a treat I try to stick with the skim or soy milk and get a small one. That way at least I'm getting some calcium without all that fat and sugar!

On the blended Big Mac drink: Does anyone remember "Mmmmm, great Bass!"

I've always been a boring, no frills black coffee (this freaks out NYC coffee counter workers--they still think black means with sugar) drinker. But I must admit that green tea frappuccino concoction totally grabs my attention. I love all fake green food, though.

I hemmed and hawed over ordering one at a NJ mall last weekend and ultimately decided that a cup of Coldstone Creamery ice cream would likely be as detrimental to my health and tastier (it actually wasn't that tasty either, I'm afraid).

Crafty, I love it! Best post ever. Worst beverage ever... no food item should be that color.

Any avid dieter will eagerly tell you that those coffee drinks are actually candy in liquid form. There is so much sugar and fat in them. The fact that this is a surprise to anyone is a shock to me.

Starbucks' green tea frapuccino was really nasty. I almost said, "Excuse me. I did not order Wrigley's doublemint gum frapuccino." Talk about gummy, artificial, oversweet, straight-from-Mars recipe for a frapuccino. No decent citizen of Japan would recognize the flavor as green tea. Yuck!

Had none of you had the samples before that?!

Anyone who wasn't aware how "bad" a frapuccino is for after just tasting one isn't that intelligent.

You don't drink fraps or eat Big Macs because you're concerned with your health.

Lemme buy you a drank...

You people should do your research before spouting misinformation. Try with out the whip. Try it without the syrup. Starbucks gives the consumer choice. Its like the fat kid sueing McD's for eating too many french fries. Weak minds weak will power... take responsibility for your own habits. You have a choice and if you choose to actually check your facts vs. looking for the worst case scenario then maybe you will see. Check out Starbucks Corporate social responsibility, health care plan, community works .. etc. I am a fan and get really miffed when Know-it-alls ruin it for everyone else!

Don't drink coffee...don't go to coffee shops.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does this stuff cost?

At a fashionable restaurant recently, a simple tea was almost the cost of a beer. I chose the simple beer.

At Costco yesterday, 12 green tea beverages with fizzy water in fashionable looking bottles (not enviro-friendly)cost almost as much as 12 liters of fruit juice. Does this make sense to anyone?

This beverage containing tea sounds like a budget-buster as well as a diet issue.
