Americanapp22_2The American Apparel store is open at 237 Smith Street. Don't miss your chance to get all horny and buy lots of Made in the USA clothing. Right next to the new clothing boutique, Banania at 241 Smith Street has closed and will open up under a new name in April. The brunch, according to a sign in the window, will stay the same. Opening soon a few blocks up at 139 Smith Street is Coco Roco, an outpost of the Park Slope Peruvian restaurant that many people love (I've never been).

Is AA the first national chain to open south of Bergen on Smith Street? If so, there may not be too much reason for pessimism.

I remember when Blockbuster opened on Court Street. Now many years after, I've heard Blockbuster is closing and other than Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, are there any other national chains (other than banks) on Court Street, south of Atlantic? Any others on the horizon? Just Asking.

Blockbuster doesn't look like it is about to close. They're getting a fair amount of business, though I don't understand why with services like Netflix.

Glad to hear Banania's brunch will stay the same. Their pancakes are out of this world (perfect for days when you're feeling slightly naughty).

Didn't the owners of Coco Roco owned the previous peruvian restaurant at 139 smith that went out of business? They tried under a different name and failed, I wonder if anything will change other than the name.

The Coco Roco is replacing Cholita. I didn't know Coco Roco owned that too, but it makes sense. I thought Cholita did a good rotisserie chicken. But I only ever got take-out.

The pancakes at Banania ARE awesome...mmm. walnuts & bananas. Genius. Pair one portion with a side of bacon and make 2 people very happy!

Great. I've never been. Finally made plans to try Banania next weekend with some friends. Now it's closing. I'm sure there's a lesson here somewhere...

I hope Coco Roco has the same rotisserie chicken as Cholita. The rest of Cholita's food was so-so.

i just learned what "cholita" means (at least in ecuador). "chola" or "cholo" is a slang term for an indigenous person and is often used in a derogatory way. however, "cholita" (or cholito) is a term of endearment denoting an individual who is sweet, kind, honest, etc. ?que interesante, no?

We were very sad to find that Banania had closed. Does anyone know why it closed?
