Mexico: In Pictures
A dog's-eye view of the famed Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza. Sadly, we were unable to climb the largest pyramid as we were told someone had died earlier in the week and the structure was off-limits.

You have to appreciate that usually everything in Mexico isn't roped off for safety reasons. On our way out to Chichen Itza, we went through 10 to 20 miles of road construction without a flagman or sign in sight.
Did someone die, or was it a sacrificial killing?
I think it was a tourist that jumped into a sacred cenote with sun screen on. For that, they sacrificed 'em.
Was Choc Mool (sp?) still chillin'?
Choc Mol.. we didn't go. A friend of ours who goes down to Cancun every year said that it had been compeltely overrun by tourists and exploited to the fullest commercial extent.
Hmmm .... I was thinking of that reclining statue - with the sacrificial table where his belly is - at the foot of Castillo was named Choc Mol. I'm confused. What was that guy's name?
was the inner passageway open? with the jaguar sculpture?
No, it was closed. We were a little disappointed.
I was at the Tulum Mayan ruins last Friday. This dog looks like "Willy" the scraggly little dog that hangs out around the restrooms near the site's exit gate?
Juan, our tour guide of Mayan descent, was very passionate and knowledgable about his ancestry. Sadly, the tour was too short.
Lum Voltic Juan! (hope I spelled it correctly?)

The dog pictured above was at Chichen Itza. There seems to be a breed of these small mayan dogs in that area.
