New Fave Brew

BeerI've noted the excellent of Blue Point Brewery before, but the Long Island company's Winter Ale just makes me want to snuggle up with a good movie, some popcorn and a six pack.  I can't quite get into the beer description ("soapy" "light astringency" lingo like the folks over at ratebeer.com, who didn't love it as much as I do), but if forced, I'd say it has "deep amber notes" while keeping a "light, clean finish."

We picked up a sixpack of it at the Metfoods on Henry St. the other day. Liked it a lot.

I grabbed the last sixpack from Los Americas on Court St. They take their time to restocking the good stuff.

Hey, we grabbed a six of that last night too. What a small world! It's pretty tasty.

If you want something seriously festive, try Brooklyn Brewery's Barleywine Ale. It's usually available at Thrifty on Court St. and packs quite a wallop - don't try to drink more than two unless you've got a designated driver.

I brought a 6 pack of Blue Point Hoptical Illusion IPA back with me from Manhattan last night. While our blog host "Crafty" is not so into IPAs, I have to say, once again Blue Point amazes me. The Hoptical Illusion is a very hoppy brew as the name suggests, but it's not as bitter as you might imagine. It definitely has a mind bending flavor that is making me long for one right now. I think before this, my favorite IPA was 420 from the Sweetwater Brewing company in Atlanta, GA.

Six Point is also making an excellent IPA, but it's impossible to have it at home unless you feel like tapping a small keg.
