Oh the Rudeness of Park Slopers
A faithful reader asks ...
What up with all the new "no honking $350 fee" signage in Park Slope? Have you seen em? They're effin everywhere. And ugly. Like an eyesore.
Now why would I go to Park Slope when I live happily on the other side of the Gowanus? Just kidding! But I haven't seen them, and I'm a little surprised that the normally quiet and respectful Park Slopers would even need such a sign.

I've seen these signs on Clinton St. around Cobble Hill. I can still remember the first day I drove to Brooklyn, I was driving down Clinton St. and some woman behind me in an Audi was yaking on her cell and honking at me. I saw the sign about 30 seconds later. Where are the cops when you actually need them.
Yes, and those signs have been around forever on Clinton near Atlantic (or the two years since I've been in the neighborhood). Signs in that area make a lot of sense, though, because the cabbies use that road as a thoroughfare. I wonder if anyone has ever gotten a ticket for honking?
Since my bedroom faces the street in Park Slope, I'm well aware that many drivers believe that honking their horn for a minute straight in the morning will make the garbage men work faster.
Most of the honkers I've observed are either hire cars, cabs, delivery trucks or self-important jackasses yacking on cell phones.
Then again, I've seen some incredible displays of vehicular chest beating when parents are dropping their kids off at Berkley-Carroll. One morning that event coincided with a major truck delivery at Key Food and a heating oil delivery at Old First Reformed.
Total mayhem.
I'm in a truck or car most of the day for work and new ones seem to be cropping up more and more, all over the city. At first I only noticed a few, now I see them all over the place.
