The Kitchen

| | Comments (12)

A ways back, I promised to post photos of the new abode, but laziness and lack of internet access got the best of me. I now feel energized and ready to get back to the now slightly less new abode. So check out the kitchen. When we moved in the whole thing was white--quite overwhelming--and we picked this charming shade of green to brighten things up a bit. We also changed out the hideous florescent fixture for a halogen one. That's precocious Winston peering outside in the last photo. And, yes, you can hate me for having a dishwasher. I've lived the last seven years of my life without one, and I feel rather deserving.

OH! Pretty!

New cabinets? Cabinet space, even? A dishwasher? Geez. We gotta find a new apartment.

really i hate you ten times for for having the washing machine than the dishwasher.

Yeah, I purposely didn't even mention the washing machine for fear of hate mail. If it makes you feel better, those hoses you see in the sink are how the combo washer/dryer operates as it appears the landlord didn't feel like connecting it to the actual plumbing. You have to hook up one hose to the faucet and make sure the drainage one is very securly in the sink (one flood was enough to teach us that lesson).

Heh, I think if you saw our last apartment you'd be happy for us.. Our kitchen was literally in a closet. It had the smallest sink I've ever seen in a kitchen. Oh and then there was the rumble from the BQE.. plates were always rattling.. and then there was the mouse problem, attributed to the neighbors next door. I think the cats miss the mice actually..

you are one lucky renter for having been allowed to have a washing machine in your apartment. when we moved to a brownstone in carroll gardens, we had to sign a waiver agreeing not to install anything that involves connecting an appliance to a water pipe and i assumed that it was a standard practice among landlords in this area to protect the brownstones. we have resigned ourselves to the fact that for as long as we remain residents of this neighborhood, we have to contend with doing laundry in the laundromat.

I'm with Thom on hating you for your washing machine. And I'll add some extra hate for the screen door - how fabulous... especially for winston. Love the green though - really looks great.

The washing machine was in there when we moved in. It was the landlord's unit but they moved off to Brazil.

Congrats on the spiffy kitchen!

Is that a Malber washer/dryer? I am considering a purchase. Any issues with yours?

How does the sink hook-up work -- do you need to stay around the house while the machine is running to turn the water off?

Thanks for any advice!

Yes it is a Malber.. I highly recommend sticking around while it's operating or your likely to find a nice flood when you come home. It definitely needs supervision. Also, drying in one of these doesn't work in a normal sense. You need to pull things out and they'll still be damp. Your clothes will be so hot that all the water will evaporate in a matter of minutes.

where do you get the washer that hooks up to the sink?

I'm not sure where they got it, but it's a Malber 800. I could only find info on the 1000, I'm guessing it's the newest one. http://www.epinions.com/pr-Malber_WD1000_Washing_Machine
