New Bar Alert: Abilene

Notredroom

This post is a wee bit premature in that the bar isn't actually open, but it's so exciting to see another bar being constructed in the south end of Carroll Gardens. And it's just in the nick of time--getting a seat at Mini Bar was becoming a challenge on weekends. Anyway, the renovation of the old Red Room, at 444 Court Street, is just getting underway, and the corner space holds a lot of promise. I stuck my head in today, and asked the woman running the show what the bar was called. When she said Abilene, I asked her if it had any relation to Abilene, Texas. She said well, it's not a cowboy bar, and then added that it's also a Hebrew word meaning grass. So there you have it.

That place is a bad luck spot for a bar. I hope they solved the tax problem.

That location is kinda cursed for bars. I think I've been to 3 different places that have opened and closed there... And although I've had some really nice times there, there's also been just some super sketchy shit that's gone down / people who have hung out there too. But well, here's hopin'.

I suppose I will go to this place, since it's about 50 feet from my house. I heard the place that was there before kinda sucked.

There was some sketchy stuff going on, which made it fun. Hopefully the local populace doesn't decide to make it their joint again. That's what PJ Hanleys and Angry Wade's is for.
