ipod crap out
Thank goodness for AppleCare. My ipod of five months has eaten itself (metaphorically, of course, although the sound it's making is rather like the crisp crunching that only comes when biting on a truly fresh Granny Smith). Tomorrow I'll take it into Apple Soho, where I'm assuming they will give me a new one. Any one else have an ipod self-destruct in such a short period of time?

It amazes me that your's died so quick. I tote mine back and forth to work on a regular basis. Usually I throw it in my bag, which is knocked around frequently. What can you expect for a portable harddrive? They're always fragile, doesn't matter what "brand" you have. I look on in horror as I see people jogging with their iPods.. stupid. If you need something for jogging, get a solid state mp3 player (iPod shuffle, or a CF card based player)
Mine died a couple of weeks back too. It shows a weird broken file folder image (when it turns on at all) and makes horrible whirring / grindy noises. It is a 40GB and was purchased in early January. I'm hoping they'll be good to me and replace it...
Yep, that's the same problem I'm having. Broken folder and horrible grinding noises. I'm dropping it by the Apple Store tonight.
Mine too, only I'm in Iraq so I can't just "drop it off to get fixed". As far as I'm concerned, the IPOD is the biggest piece of S--t on the market. Right now mine is a $400.00 paperweight.
My second ipod in under a year just crapped out and apple has ordered me a new one, I've always been real careful with it and as far as I'm concerned their built like crap by under age chinnese workers.
T_T; Mine went fucking crazy barely one month after getting it in the mail. Freaking piece of crap, something's wrong with the circutry, because the controls are on the fritz. MAJORLY. I don't even TOUCH the damn thing while it's playing and suddenly it'll go whack and play something new, stop playing, or go on the sleep screen.
Pissed me off like no tomorrow considering we're tight for money here and I was extremely lucky to finally get this thing as a Christmas gift. Due to always being tight for money, I'm damn frugal and when something that costs $300 and fucking BREAKS after one month of use, I'm not gonna be happy about it. I barely indulge in ANYTHING over 20 bucks every 5 months, so this is just.. ugh. Too damn much.
I don't know if there's an Apple Store anywhere near here, so I'll probably send it back. ...I give 'em three strikes before I finally call it quits. Is it possible to sue them over selling something faulty like this for so damn much?? --;
yea.. parents just got me an ipod video 30gb for my bday.. loaded a few songs onto it and its already making friggin grinding noises... v. disaapointed... :'(
I might get the nano, but not the larger iPod. I think the harddrive is the weak point. Too many delicate moving parts. Every problem we've had was due to a hard drive failure.
At least the nano has solid-state flash memory for storage (far more durable)
