New Restaurant Alert: Bouillabaisse

| | Comments (5)

Bouillabaisse, the French restaurant previously residing on Atlantic, has moved to "the Columbia Waterfront," which basically means Union Street across the BQE. The new bistro sits two storefronts down from Schnack, home of the perfect little miniburgers, and just a short walk away from House of Pizza and Calzone, home of the deep-fried calzone. While I have yet to eat at this new gem, the restaurant was packed last night at 10pm.  And even though it was hard to feel hunger after three schnackies, a beer and half an order of fries, I thought the place smelled pretty good.

You can find Bouillabaisse at 126 Union, between Columbia and Hicks streets. Phone (718) 855-4405. The website isn't up yet, but the nice letter-pressed business card the hostess gave me lists it as www.bouillabaisse126.com.

Bouillabaisse, for those who don't know, is a very tasty fish stew. My family from San Francisco makes Cioppino, a dish of Italian or Portuguese origins similar to Bouillabaisse. Let me say, it's one of the best dishes I've ever had.

Bouillabaisse uses pernod and fennel while cioppino has dry white wine.

The smell at Bouillabaisse (the resturant) was amazing... I can't wait to try it.

We went by the other night, but since they didn't have their liquor license yet, we bailed out. You can BYOB, though.

just saw this place last night & wondered if it was the same one from atlantic ave. looks nice.

and Amy L, as far as I'm concerned, BYO is a point in its favor -- i have a mixed case of recently acquired wines waiting for an occasion, so i'll definitely grab one and go before they get their license. it's kinda nice to have a decent glass with dinner without the mark-up.
